Welcome to 911photography.com!
My love is emergency medicine, but my passion is definitely photography. I am not only a full-time emergency physician, but also a busy part-time professional photographer.
My daughter jokes that I have seen all the important moments of my life through a viewfinder, even her birth -- she is right!
My first camera was a Kodak Instamatic, which my parents gave me for Christmas when I was 8 years-old. I have not stopped taking pictures since! It was not until my 15th birthday that I received my first "real camera" (Olympus OM-2). I went on to take every photography course that my high school and college had to offer.
I finally switched to digital in 2002 and I love the medium! I enjoy the flexibility of manipulating pixels on my computer in broad daylight. I am also not afraid to take as many shots as needed to get the image I want. Digital has increased my confidence as a photographer and the quality of my work.
I shoot Nikon D3X, D3, D700, D300, bodies, always with Nikon glass. I also carry with me a Panasonic Lumix FX35 (point and shoot with Leica glass) for those unexpected photo opportunities.
My images have a photojournalistic quality to them, which I developed through the many years I contributed to regional newspapers, school publications and yearbooks. I light my subjects using Hensel lights, which I modify using Photoflex, Chimera, Hensel and California Sunbounce soft boxes, umbrellas and reflectors. The quality of these lights and modifiers is outstanding! I am equally comfortable shooting in the studio or outdoors, although I prefer to work on location where I can modify and supplement available light.
Historically my images have focused on people, nature and travel. My work has been featured in trade magazines, regional and national newspapers, and various internet portals. I am currently shooting mostly assignments for publication, including nature, travel, sports, beauty, fashion and glamour.
I do not shoot TFP, but I offer competitive rates. Contact me for a quote. Most images on this site are available for purchase or licensing. Please contact me for pricing at 911md@earthlink.net, or 310-804-7276.
